50 Things I’ve Learned in My First 50 Years

Wow! I’m overwhelmed by all the awesome birthday wishes.  This year was a big one and I don’t roll into this next decade without time for reflection, gratitude and a little bit of laughter thinking about all that I have done, where I am in life and what I want tomorrow to look like.

So 50…that’s a big new number for me.  What does it mean…well I’ve been blessed to live this long. Not that modern life span doesn’t offer it, but you should never expect it or take it for granted.

Listen I’ve been fortunate, I’ve had a pretty awesome life up to this point.

I’ve traveled

I’ve raised my 3 children

I’ve put myself through college and graduated in my 30’s

I’ve owned multiple successful businesses

I’ve experienced amazing love and friendships

I’ve ran 1/2 marathons

I’ve been skydiving, bull riding and spent time with Sir Richard Branson

So what does all that mean. It means I’m humbled with gratitude for the many wonderful experiences and lots of learning opportunities I’ve experienced thus far in my life.

In honor of My 50th Year on this Planet, I want to share 50 things that I’ve learned throughout the years. I hope those of you my age can read them and remember why we are here, and those younger possibly gleam a bit of joy of what’s to come.

1- Love and appreciate your children. The hours are long, the years are short.


3- Don’t ask permission.

4- Stop waiting until tomorrow.

5- Play more.

6- Be authentic.

7- Have integrity even when others don’t.

8- Remember you attract the energy you put out, if you don’t like what’s around you…take a look at yourself first.

9- 4 legged friends are here to protect us, make sure you surround yourself with lots of em’.

10- Appreciate your parents, regardless what your childhood looked like.

11- ‘Things’ only matter when you don’t have em’.

12- Take care of your body….it’s the only vehicle we have to take us through this journey.

13- Help others every chance you get.

14- Journal often, it helps you work through things and gives you great insights to how you are growing and evolving.

15- Give more than you take.

16- Skips meals often…your body doesn’t need it and it will thank you later in life.

17- Appreciate those around you.

18- Stop complaining.

19- Don’t like where you are in your life – change it, it really is that simple.

20- Get outside, nature clears the head, the lungs and the heart.

21- Read…everyday.

22- Never stop learning.

23- Be naked more.

24- Be vulnerable, that’s when life really happens.

25- Learn how to ask better questions.

26- Drink water….like your addicted.

27- Laugh more.

28- Don’t work so much you miss out what’s in front of you.

29- Turn your technology off.

30- Stop thinking you are missing out. You aren’t. You can have it if you want it, work for it and manifest it.

31- It’s not greener on the other side of the fence. It’s just different grass, same weeds.

32- Don’t like your relationships, change them and stop complaining.

33- Master yourself.

34- Protect others.

35- Don’t judge, at the end of the day you have no idea what that person is going through.

36- Check the ego.

37- Experience other cultures with an open mind.

38- Work hard.

39- Love openly.

40- Get over your childhood drama. Everyone has some degree of it. Become the best adult you can and create a new story.

41- Tony Robbins was right….there really is something called Man’s Disease.

42- Look past the exterior of a human and see who they are at their core – you will experience the awe of their spirit

43- Eat real food. There’s plenty other things out there that will kill you.

44- Sweat! Your body needs to get rid of all those toxins.

45- Volunteer whenever you can.

46- Say what you mean, mean what you say.

47- Be a good role model.

48- Ask for help.

49- Don’t live with regret.

50- Love yourself more.
